1798 S-165 R4- Style II Hair, Large 8, VF Detail, Scratch, PCGS. Glossy light chocolate and steel brown. The surfaces are smooth but there are several scratches on the reverse, mostly inside the wreath but a couple extend down to NI in UNITED. MDS, Breen state II, with light die clashmarks on both sides but no cracks. The narrow rim cud over M has not formed. The date is bold and the legends are strong. Graded F15 net VG10 and tied for CC#23 in the Noyes census, his photo #25017. This cataloger's EAC grade is net F12. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 36065.95/47249975.

Born in New York in 1948, Jeffrey D. Gresser is a long-time Las Vegas resident who began collection Lincoln cents in 1959. Having recently joined Early American Coppers, he attended the 1986 Robinson S. Brown, Jr. auction where he purchased an 1817 15 Stars (N-16) large cent. He went on to form a high-grade set of 1817 large cent varieties. American Numismatic Rarities sold his middle-date and late-date large cents in August 2004. He retired in 2008 and has worked in the coin business since then.
