PHOENICIA. Orthosia. Cleopatra VII Thea Neotera, Queen of Egypt, 51-30 BC. Bronze (Bronze, 22 mm, 5.44 g, 12 h), year Β = 2 = 36/5 BC. Diademed and draped bust of Cleopatra VII to right, her hair rolled into a bun at the back, wearing a pendant earring and a pearl necklace; behind her neck, X-topped sceptre . Rev. ΟΡΘΩCΙEΩΝ / L B Baal of Orthosia standing on two horned and winged lions. RPC I 4501. SNG Copenhagen 174 var. (year 3). Very rare - the RPC notes only fifteen examples, with only three of those being in public collections. An attractive, clear specimen with an excellent portrait and pleasing brown patina. Good very fine.
