AN AMITAYUS BRONZE, QIANLONG MARK & PERIOD
China, dated 1780. Dressed as a bodhisattva seated in dhyanasana upon a square base borne at the corners by stylized vajra with scrolled terminals, the hands in dhyanamudra, adorned with high foliate crown, earrings and pectoral, with a cascading cloth falling at the front above the neatly incised nine-character reign mark.

Condition: Kalasa and mandorla lost. One earring slightly bent. Heat damage and related losses to chest. The complete figure bears a later red lacquer coating, possibly applied to cover extensive wear to gilding underneath, which is still visible in a few places.
