ARAB-BUKHARAN: Turgar (Turghar), ca. 738-750, AR drachm (2.83g), ND,

ARAB-BUKHARAN: Turgar (Turghar), ca. 738-750, AR drachm (2.83g), ND, A-R93, Zeno-152976 (this piece), see Zeno-11614 for further information, standard Bukharkhudat design, but with the name of Turgar in Sogdian to right of the king's bust, and with the fire altar and 2 attendants on the reverse, with the royal head on the altar facing left, lovely VF-EF, RRRR. Turgar remained in power after the Arab conquest of Samarqand, completed during or very shortly after AH120 (738 AD). It is unknown whether these drachms were struck at Samarqand with some sort of agreement with the Umayyad authorities or somewhere outside Samarqand. In either case it would be related historically to the Islamic conquest at Samarqand.
