Domaine Ponsot, Clos Saint Denis Cuvée du Centenaire 2005
Saint Denis was a Christian martyr who was decapitated by pagan priests in Paris. The Clos Saint Denis vineyard was planted by monks who had the jawbone of the Saint in their Chapter. It is a plump and floral Grand Cru, with a silken tannin structure. The 0.38ha tended by Ponsot are owned by the Mercier family. The vines were planted in 1905, hence the Très Vieilles Vignes labelling since 2006, to indicate 100 years of age. The Cuvée du Centenaire is a special release of the 2005 vintage, honouring the centenary of the vineyard’s ancient vines.
