A BLUE AND WHITE 'BIRDS AND FLOWERS' JAR, LATE MING DYNASTY
China, 16th - early 17th century. Of compressed globular from, surmounted by a short waisted neck, painted in underglaze blue, the sides depicting gnarled pine trees, bamboo shoots, and rockwork, with birds perched on branches and in flight above, all below a diaper patterned band with four cartouches enclosing birds on blossoming and leafy branches, the short neck with a scrolling vine border.

Condition
: Very good condition with minor wear, some surface scratches, and manufacturing flaws including kiln grit to the interior, firing cracks, glaze recesses, pottery lines, and dark spots.
