FOUR MOUNTED WAKIZASHI (SHORT SWORDS) Edo period (1615-1868), probably 19th century The first suriage , unokubi-zukuri , the suriage nakago with one hole and katte-sagari file marks, signed Moritsugu , the koshira-e (mounts) comprising a lacquered saya (sheath) simulating mottled ink splashes, the tsuka (hilt) covered in same (rayskin) with olive silk tsukamaki wrapping in lozenge pattern, the fuchi-gashira (collar and pommel) and menuki (grips) bronze, the menuki depicting feathers, the tsuba (hand guard) shakudo nanako with gold details depicting a large daidaiko drum and nomaku (outdoor curtain) with maple; the second suriage , shinogi-zukuri , iori-mune , the suriage nakago with two holes and indistinct file marks, unsigned , the koshira-e black lacquer with gilt karakusa ('Chinese grasses') and mitsu kashiwa mon (three oak leaves crest), most of the fittings brass and copper, the tsuba wood; the third suriage , shinogi-zukuri , iori-mune , each side carved with a bohi , the nakago with one hole and takanoba file marks, unsigned , the koshira-e comprising a saya covered in polished same , the tsuka covered in same with black silk tsukamaki wrapping in lozenge pattern, the fuchi-gashira and menuki shakudo with gilt details, the tsuba pierced iron; the fourth shinogi-zukuri , iori-mune , chu-gissaki , gunome-ha of nie , the ura side with a dragon horimono , the suriage nakago with one hole, signed Bishu Osafune Sukemune , the koshira-e comprising a saya of black lacquer decorated in red and gold with dragon roundels, the tsuka black-lacquered with cotton tsukamaki wrapping in lozenge pattern, the kashira and tsuba iron, the tsuba depicting dragons, the menuki copper, the fuchi shakudo nanako depicting gold details of warriors in a boat.
