Traditional genres of painting can be associated with the iconography of this impressing art work, but at the same time it refers to a present that detaches itself from history. The result is a figure of time that can only be represented in the construction of a moment, as photography makes it possible. Nowak’s photographs distance themselves from the documentary in order to document the status of the image that steels away from time in order to capture a moment of time itself. What seems unreal or constructed in her pictures is the familiar that is usually faded out: the pause, a moment between times. Das Motiv lässt sich ikonografisch mit traditionellen Genres der Malerei assoziieren, verweist aber zugleich auf eine Gegenwart, die sich von der Geschichte löst. Daraus ergibt sich eine Figur von Zeit, die nur in der Konstruktion eines Augenblicks darstellbar ist, wie sie die Fotografie erlaubt. Nowaks Aufnahmen distanzieren sich vom Dokumentarischen um den Status des Bildes zu dokumentieren, der sich aus der Zeit stielt um einen Moment von Zeit selbst zu fassen. Was an ihren Bildern irreal oder konstuiert erscheint, ist das Bekannte, das in der Regel ausgeblendet wird: das Innehalten, ein Augenblick zwischen den Zeiten.
