Large Cents
1798 S-147 R5- Style I Hair with Large 8, XF Detail, Environmental Damage, PCGS. A sharp cent but covered with fine roughness mixed with some hairline scratches, mostly on the wreath. No verdigris. The notable marks are a small rim dent left of the lower curls and two ticks left of the L in LIBERTY. Medium chocolate brown and steel. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks. The date and legends are clear. Graded VF30 net VG10 and CC#13 in the Noyes census, his photo #24040. Bland says VF25 net F12 and tied for CC#7. This cataloger's EAC grade is net VG10. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 36020.97/47249972.

The owner of Mason-Dixon Coin Exchange in Baltimore, Thomas Pettit Warfield also formed an extensive personal collection that was cataloged by Walter Breen and sold by Associated Coin Auctions in October 1955. He was born on November 21, 1907, and passed away on December 26, 1969. Two days later, the Baltimore Sun published a notice: "The Maryland Numismatic Society deeply regrets the passing of our Charter Member and Advisor, Thomas Warfield, and extends sympathy to the family." A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Warfield also worked in the insurance business. His obituary in the Baltimore Sun notes: "For the past 10 years his main interest had been his lifelong hobby, numismatics, and he was president and operator of the Mason-Dixon Coin Exchange, one of the largest firms of its kind in this part of the country."
