Elizabeth I (1558?1603), Sixth issue, Pound, mintmark woolpack (c.1594?96), crowned bust in ruff and elaborate dress left, legend reads ELIZABETH DG ANG FRA ET HIB REGINA. Rev, crowned quartered shield of arms, E to left, R to right, legend surrounds SCVTVM FIDEI PROTEGET EAM, 10.87g (S.2534; N.2008; Schneider 799, Brown and Comber F6). A handsome example, few die breaks and light contact marks, portrait and bust showing all the key details with some soft areas around the shoulder region. Rev, pleasing, little fade in the crown above shield, coat of arms well struck. Nicely toned, underlying original mint red. Good very fine.
