A rare Sèvres bleu-lapis and green-ground square tray ( plateau 'carré à jour ), circa 1758 Of the second size, decorated with a geometric trellis-like pattern of both bleu-lapis and green-ground panels heightened with gilding, the pierced scrollwork and harebell rim decorated in the same colours, 14.9cm wide, interlaced LL monogram in blue, incised mark Footnotes: Provenance: Sir George Buller Collection, sold Christie's London, 5 June 1884 (paper label to reverse); With E. Allain, Paris (label to underside) The combination of bleu-lapis and green grounds was mainly used during the years from 1758 to 1762, although the factory seems to have attempted the combination earlier, for instance in 1752, when they listed several pomade pots with landscape decoration with a fond bleu et verd (see Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain, vol. I (1988), p. 112). Although Ros Savill states that it was likely that only the blue was an actual ground colour. The colour combination was also described as saffre et verd in the factory sale records. A small pomade pot with this rare combination of ground colours was sold in these rooms, 9 December 2021, lot 252 . For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
