Charles I "Declaration" Crown 1643 MS62 NGC, Oxford mint, no mm, KM226.1, S-2946A, Brooker-871. 29.76gm. An astonishing British rarity when encountered so pristine, witnessed here undeniably uncirculated and the only certified "Declaration" Crown of any mint bestowed a lofty MS designation by the grading services. While mild striking weakness obscures small portions of the legends as is characteristic of these large hammered issues, the advanced preservation is undeniable; a likely result of having been set aside soon after its creation in an advanced cabinet. The horse and rider display ample detail, all framed by a polychromatic ring concentrating within the legends. With the previous Oxford-minted example we offered in October of 2021 bringing substantial sums as an AU53, there is little telling what kind of interest may be seen when the present example crosses the auction block.
