Early Dollars 1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Wide Date, B-23,

Early Dollars
1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Wide Date, B-23, BB-105, R.3 -- Artificial Toning -- NGC Details. Unc. Bowers Die State III. The B-23, BB-105 variety ranks among the most available 1798 Heraldic Eagle dollars, and it is more frequently seen than virtually all early dollar varieties regardless of date. This example displays the sharp definition of an Uncirculated example on both the obverse and reverse. Struck from a late die state, stars 1 and 2 are thin and spindly. Liberty's curls lack fullness top and bottom from die lapping. Several pinscratches and small marks are hidden by the artfully applied toning that is not really objectionable, but clearly unauthentic. The sharply defined motifs and overall appearance still promise to attract many views and bids.
