This remarkable set includes 18 examples of the sought-after VAM-4 "Hot Lips" variety, consecutively graded from Fair 2 to AU58 (the AU55 is CAC-endorsed). Each piece displays natural silver-gray patina, with the higher-grade pieces showing more brilliance and luster. A clear progression of the grades is apparent in each coin, showing deliberate attention by our consignor to acquiring accurately graded pieces for each level. VAM-4 is a major rarity in Mint State, and so the AU58 coin in this set is particularly important as a high-end example of the variety. The variety is nicknamed "Hot Lips" due to the pronounced die doubling of Liberty's lips, but the entire obverse portrait is boldly doubled. VAM-4 is one of the most coveted doubled dies in the entire Morgan dollar series.
