A Meissen two-handled chocolate beaker and saucer from the 'Red Dragon' service, circa 1739 Painted in iron-red and gilding with two phoenixes in the centre of the saucer and dragons and auspicious symbols around the rims of both, the ear-shaped handles embellished in gilding and iron-red, the beaker: 7cm high; the saucer: 13cm diam., crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, incised V inside footrim of saucer, impressed dot and 9 to beaker (2) Footnotes: Two dozen chocolate beaker of this type were delivered to the Dresden Hofkonditorei by 1739, and 123 beakers are recorded in the inventory of 1752 (J.
