Fatimid Water Fountain


12th-13th century AD. A large carved water fountain section with square-section spout, the upper face with two low-relief opposing rampant lionesses, a foliate panel behind each head. 160 kg, 61.5x68cm maximum (24 1/4 x 26 3/4"). Property of a West London businessman, his collection having been formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no.10192-166348. Fine condition.
