Wigerus Vitringa (Dutch, 1657-1721) Shipping in choppy seas oil on panel 34 x 44.5cm, in an 18th century carved giltwood frame Provenance: Admiral Sir Lionel Preston; Phillips of Hitchin; With Simon C Dickinson; The Estate of Mrs Althea Lloyd. The painting is sold with an authentication as Wigerus Vitringa by Dr Gerlinde de Beer. Condition Report Overall 52 x 62.5cm The panel is in plane. The wood is comprised of two pieces with a horizontal join across the centre. This join has been re-enforced verso. Under UV light there is some minimal retouching to the join. Scattered flecks and spots of retouching are apparent mainly to the left side of the sea, the sails of the fishing boat, with more minor scattered flecks elsewhere. This has been well executed and the painting is presented ready to hang in a carved gilt frame.
