RACHMANINOFF SERGEI: (1873-1943) Russian Composer and Pianist. T.L.S., `S. Rachmaninoff´, in Cyrillic, one page, 4to, n.p., 1st August 1934, on his personal printed stationery, Villa Senar, Hertenstein, Luzern, to Mr. Jacobson, in Cyrillic. Rachmaninoff responds to his correspondent letter, stating `I received your letter yesterday and today I ordered the Mozart score in Liszt’s arrangement you had recommended. I did not know it. I was very sad to read that you are still ill and have had to cancel all your lectures at the university. I hope to see you again this winter if all goes well´ Further Rachmaninoff apologizes for the short response explaining that he is very busy. Together with two T.L.S., `Evgeny Somon´, one page and 4to each, New York, dated 11th and 27th December 1933, both to Miron Isaakovich, in Cyrillic. Somon responds to a record request on behalf of Rachmamaninoff, stating in part `I inform you that Sergey Vasilievich will try to get the records you are missing and if he succeeds, I will inform you about it. Unfortunately, he himself lacks many of the records that he played for Victrola´, and `In addition to my previous letter, I would like to inform you that the records you are interested in such as The Cuckoo, Preludes in G minor and in G major, Gradus ad Parnassum can be purchased through the manager of Sergey Vasilievich Mr. Foley at a price of $2.50 per record. As for the Beethoven Variations, since this record is still in the Victor Company export catalogue, it is probably a bit cheaper´. Also including Natalia Rachmaninoff, daughter of Sergei Rachmaninoff, A.L.S., `Natalie Rachmaninoff´, one page, 4to, Evansville, Indiana, 16th November 1934, on the Hotel McCurdy – Van Orman Hotels printed stationery, to Mrs. Berthe Jacobson, in English. Natalia states `I will be very glad to call when we are in Seattle. Mr. Rachmaninoff however is so busy with his music that I regret it will nt be possible to take lunch with you…´ Accompanied by the original Hotel Mercury printed stationery envelope, postmarked and stamped. Also including a 7.5 x 9.5 photograph, unsigned, showing Rachmaninoff outdoors, standing in a full length pose alongside his wife Natalia Satina. VG, 5
