Great Britain Oliver Cromwell Crown 1658/7 MS64+ NGC,

Great Britain
Oliver Cromwell Crown 1658/7 MS64+ NGC, KM-D207, S-3226, ESC-240 (prev. ESC-10). An outstanding coin in every respect and a resounding testament to the advantages posed by the early adoption of milled coinage in England. The first Crown produced in England using the screw press and a survivor of a British historical flashpoint, the piece at hand cannot help but to be celebrated. The cabinet patina unleashes a flurry of pilot-light blue, emerald, and amber across the expanses which radiate in a semi-Prooflike fashion when viewed in hand. Despite the later life-stage of the die, as suggested by slight rusting and the signature die crack across Cromwell's neckline having reached its full form, Thomas Simon's design maintains much of its precision, one of the attributes that secured this specimen its plus designation. The finest example of this type we have handled with just one specimen placing higher on the NGC census, the Eric P. Newman example graded at MS65.

Very much an emblem to the confliction that plagued the English Commonwealth, Cromwell's coinage is often remembered both as the first English currency to portray a commoner, and by the fact that despite his claims to have done away with the monarchy, the arms on the reverse continued to display a crown.
