1987 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands

A genuine garage find, discovered after a decade off the road, now recommissioned with a new MOT - Offered Without Reserve.The Capri 280 was the final, limited edition run of the legendary Ford Coupé which had first appeared back in 1969. Ford originally intended to build only 500 turbo-charged vehicles (by Turbo Technics) complete with gold alloy wheels but a change of production planning meant a name change to Capri 280. These cars featured a limited slip differential, a full leather Recaro interior, and 15-inch, seven-spoke alloy wheels to complement the 2.8 injected V6 engine. Just 1,038 were ever made and all were finished in Brooklands Green, resulting in them, inevitably becoming known as 'Brooklands Capris'.Offered here is a 1987 Ford Capri 280 ‘Brooklands’ that was supplied new to the UK-market in right-hand drive and first registered in August 1987. 35 years later, this 280 was discovered stored away under covers in a building purchased by our vendor, having been off the road for over ten years. The covers were removed, air pumped in the tyres and rolled out of the lock-up where, after a clean, a new battery and some fresh fuel, the 2.8-Litre V6 fired into life sounding in fine tune. The old Capri was then taken to a local specialist workshop for a full service and checked over from bumper to bumper before an MOT test.At the time of cataloguing the speedometer indicated 97,868 miles which cannot be verified but is believed to be correct. We are informed that on the road, the 280 performs well and still attracts lots of attention and admiring glances. The Brooklands metallic paintwork presents beautifully, and the panel gaps are uniform across the body. In the cabin, the correct leather Recaro seats also present well along with the three-spoke steering wheel, and the carpets are protected with 280-embossed over-mats. The undercarriage also presents very well and appears to have been subject to some restorative works at some point in the past. Within the history file is a current V5C ready for export or transfer, new MOT Certificate valid until September 2023 and various other items of paperwork from over the years.In summary, this is a great opportunity to secure this lovely 280 Brooklands with sensible mileage and absolutely on-the-button, ready to turn heads at any classic car event.
