A Continental faience turnip box and cover, possibly Brussels or Delft, third quarter of the 18th century, the manganese body with a tapering root, with yellow-edged green foliage at one end, the cover with a large leaf finial, 21.6cm longProvenance: The Robert G. Vater Collection of European Ceramics.Photographs: © Christie's ImagesCondition Report: Overall in good decorative order with minor typical chips. Tip of the stalk of the turnip chipped off with traces of old glue and piece available for repair. One of the leaves applied to the base of the turnip chipped in half and broken edge retouched in green. Small restored and retouched chip to upper rim of box, at base of the stalk. A few very minor glaze flakes to the rim of the box. The cover with 1 cm. flat chip to the underside edge of the large green leaf handle, with some traces of retouching in green around the same area of the leaf tip. Some minor scattered glaze flaking to the edge of leaf handle.
