Taxidermy, a Javan Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros sondaicus) head mount, possibly by Edward Gerrard & Sons, London, well preserved and modelled with forward gaze and open mouth revealing teeth and tongue, on original oak shield 84cm deep For a similar example see Bonhams, Sydney, 26 June 2010, The Owston Collection, Lot 922 (Sold AUD $108,000) The horn is approximately 9.5cm high and 14cm long. The skin folds beneath the neck crack approximately 12cm. Some stress cracks in the skin near the eyes and areas of repainting over cracks. The rear edge of the rhino head has had cracks.
