A Pair Of Flintlock Pistols Of Carbine Bore By Holmes, Circa 1820 With browned twist octagonal sighted barrels, border engraved case-hardened tangs decorated with foliage, border engraved case-hardened flat bevelled locks each signed in capitals and decorated with a starburst behind the semi-rainproof pan and with foliage at the stepped tail, engraved cocks and safety-catches, and rollers, figured full stocks each with chequered rounded butt, blued steel trigger-guards (one tang rust patinated) and turned ramrod-pipes, the former each with pineapple finial and decorated with a Britannia shield centred on foliage on the border engraved bow, vacant silver escutcheons, brass-tipped ramrods, one with iron worm, and retaining much of their original finish, Birmingham proof marks (2) 20.5 cm. barrels Footnotes: Probably retailed by Henry Holmes recorded in Liverpool between 1804 and 1837 For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
