Flt Lt Denny was captured on the German island of Juist in November 1940, when he was forced to crash land his aircraft. During October 1941 John and a travelling companion were being transported by train (as prisoners), and managed to cut a hole into the side of the truck. They effected their escape as the train was leaving the station. John followed the railway line, reaching the city of Bremen. He managed to board a train heading to Amsterdam, but was force to abandon his carriage when the train in a siding on arrival at Oldenburg. He later hid in a barn, but was discovered by the farmer owner and handed over to the police. During his captivity he was interred at Stalag Luft 1, and at Oflag VIB, where he was part of the escape committee engaged in tunnel digging operations. A wonderful medal group and archive of this brave R.A.F Officer. Condition: generally very good. Normal service and age related wear to both the medals and paperwork. The medals have toned with age, and a good level of detail remains to all.
